Hello there my name is Keith Byrne and I’m an Irish guy who has been involved with dogs for over 40 years. In this website, I will show you how to enjoy and care for your dog in a responsible and caring way.
From an early age, I pestered my parents to get a dog. I would walk the neighbors’ dogs and volunteer to mind them at any opportunity. Eventually, my folks relented and at age 10 I was the proud owner of my first dog, a Kerry Blue Terrier called Oscar. Oscar and I went everywhere together.
The Kerry Blue Terrier is a native Irish breed of dog and they do not shed hair (hypoallergenic) , Consequently, I had to learn how to look after his coat and learn grooming techniques. It involved learning to brush and cut the hair with scissors and an electric blade. If the coat is left to its own devices it becomes very matted and my dog turns into a woolly sheep. Anyway, after many years of practice, I finally mastered the necessary skills to become a dog groomer. Soon I had a list of local dog clients and my local vet would recommend my services.
From dog grooming, I then entered the world of dog showing and it was a real eye-opener. To cut a long story short my dog became an Irish Champion on the dog show circuit. I was so proud of Oscar and he remained my best friend until he died at the age of 12.
I have also volunteered at animal shelters and also have been involved in pet sitting and dog walking. In Boston’s DSPCA shelter I met my good friend Lisa Aprea who has been involved in dog training and obedience all her life. Lisa has kindly volunteered her insights and knowledge of dog training techniques and tips on the articles on this site.
How is Content Created
The entire content on this site has been planned, written, and edited by myself and Lisa to ensure we meet the highest quality standards. As much as possible we try to get our hands on the items mentioned in this blog to get real-life experience with them but it is not always possible so we also rely on extensive online feedback from real customers of these items. I also spend a lot of time in my local pet stores and talk to their staff to get to know all the items that come out and which ones may be of interest to you. All in all, I want this site to be a place you can trust and that is not rigged by brand sponsorship so you can use our information to make the best decisions for yourself when it comes to looking after your four-legged friend.
